Wilde Plum Farm Field Raised Boer Goat Meat

Goat Meat with assistant from Wilde Plum Farm

Our goats are available throughout the year and vary on the number that is being sold.  This number varies due to the number on hand, due to the number of births, and the offsprings that we are keeping for our breeding stock.  We do, on occasion, thin our herd of does and bucks.  Do understand that we have animals of higher show quality and genetics that are sold as live animals only and we do not play any part of their arbitration.  However, we do have animals available for purchase all year round.  This is a first come first serve situation and a waiting list is available for meat goats.

Wilde Plum Farm of Georgia meat goats are sold as a WHOLE goat only (this mean you cannot buy an individual piece or roast although we will have the goat butchered, cut and wrapped in paper or heat wrapped.).
Orders must be received and the retaining deposit must be paid in advance of the arbitration.  This process is not done by Wilde Plum Farm and is taken to a Department of Agriculture inspected butcher who will custom slaughter, process, wrap and freeze the meat for your purchase- we are just here to help in the transportation of the animals.  The transportation consists of the live animal from our farm to the butcher.  We are not responsible for the arbitration of any animals in any way and we are just assisting our customers in their process. The meat will be picked up after the butcher has finished with the preparation of the meat your consumption.

Please read all of the information below.
There is a $100.00 deposit (non-refundable) or half the total cost of the goat to reserve goat meat, whichever is higher due to total body weight.
Note: this is a non refundable fee.  If our assistance is needed, please contact us via email (thebarn@wildeplumfarmofgeorgia.com or phone 229-938-5741) with questions or to place your reservation.

Our goats at Wilde Plum Farm of Georgia are raised on grass and hay with minimal grain and are wormed when needed. We do give free range minerals that the goats are able to access when they need it to help in their growth. If any medication is used to treat any problems that might visit the farm then this information will be passed on to the perspective owner. If there is any withdrawal time from medication that was used it will be noted and the animal will not be released from the farm until the minimum time is reached to get this out of the system for safety issues. Goat meat will be available as WHOLE goats only. Our butcher will be happy to cut your goat into pieces if you so desire. Goat meat will be sold based on weight of the goat when it leaves our farm. We estimate that our wethers (neutered male goats) will be 60-70 lbs at weaning age and should have a hanging weight of 25-35 lbs when starting the butchering process.
(Please note that we have a limited number of larger wethers, does, and bucks available if desired. Contact the farm for details.)
Goat meat is sold by total body weight of live animals for $3.50 per lb. Once the meat is received from the butcher and is transported to the farm for pickup it will not stay any more than 48 hours before it is mailed out or picked up by the customer.  If the finished product must be sent by mail or paid postage, the total must be paid before it is sent.  This includes the postage and total cost of the goat.

Understanding Weight:
Our goat meat is sold based on its weight before it leaves the farm not the hanging weight. Hanging weight is defined as the carcass weight minus the head, hide and entrails. The hanging weight is approximately 50% - 60% of the live animal weight. So, a 70lb goat would have a hanging weight of approximately 35lbs -42lbs. After the meat is hung it is then cut and wrapped. At this time some of the bone is removed from the meat. Therefore, the total amount of goat you receive will differ from the hanging weight. You should expect to receive between 60-65% of the hanging weight as cut, wrapped meat.

Butchering Choices:
Our goat meat is currently available as a whole carcass, two half pieces or butchered "family style."
If you choose to have your goat cut "family style," it will be cut into eight roasts and two racks of ribs.
Goats can be cut into stew meat or ground for an extra fee.
If you have questions about the butchering processes please contact the farm and we can help in understanding this process. We can give you the information of the butcher that we use and you can arrange this process yourself.
The cost of our goat meat is $3.50 per lb. There is a $100 deposit on all goat meat. If you are interested in reserving a goat please contact us via email (thebarn@wildeplumfarmofgeorgia.com) or phone 229-938-5741.

Sample Goat Yield: This is just a sample to understand what cuts are possible off a goat
One "Family Style" goat yielded the following (note that this is a sample and yields will vary depending on the size of the goat)

2 shoulder roasts
2 packages stew meat
4 loin roasts
2 ham roasts
2 packages ribs
1 roast (neck)

 * The weight of the individual pieces will vary due to the over all weight of the animal pier to processing *
